Dancers have always been explored their particular interests and melded it into their dance performances. Dark fusion/ gothic bellydance has been performed in nightclubs, at pagan events, cabaret and burlesque extensively since bellydance really took off in the early 1980s. With the advent of internet connectiveness and the recent explosion of bellydance, it has become a genre and scene in its own right, with devoted DVDs, websites and festivals.

Rich, emotive, sometimes unnerving, dark fusion is influenced by the gothic subculture, ritual and physical theatre. Costuming, musical choices and choreography are much more wide ranging and adventurous, and performed at more niche subculture events.

This class, for dancers of intermediate level experience, explores the darker side of fusion bellydance.  We indulge our penchant for dark ambient, electronica, old school gothic and metal. No, you don’t need to be a goth, just have a sense of adventure to follow this calling.
